The Allergy Asthma & Immunotherapy Update was held at
Era’s Lucknow Medical College on 16th Oct 2015. On this occasion Allergy Clinic
was inaugurated by Dr VN Tripathi, Director General Medical Education, Uttar
Pradesh in presence of Dr. Alok Dhawan, Director, Indian Institute of
Toxicology Research, Lucknow & Dr. A.B. Singh, Secretary, Indian College of
Allergy, Asthma & Applied Immunology. Professor Farzana Mehdi, Director
Academics, Era’s Lucknow medical college, told that Allergy Clinic will run two
days in a week under able guidance of Professor Rajendra Prasad. Professor
Savitri Thakur, Principal, Dean & CMS also graced the occasion.
Inaugurating the update, Dr. VN Tripathi told that it is great news for the
state of Uttar Pradesh that an Allergy Clinic will start functioning in Era’s
Lucknow Medical College, where facilities for diagnosis and treatment of
various allergic diseases will be provided.
Dr. M.K. Agarwal, Professor and Head, Respiratory Allergy
& Immunology, Metro Centre for Respiratory Diseases and Past President of
Indian College of Allergy Asthma and Applied Immunology, spoke about the lab
diagnosis of various allergic diseases. He also spoke about the advances in
immunotherapy of various Allergic Disorders. Dr.Nikhil Gupta, Assistant
Professor, Department of Medicine, Era’s Lucknow Medical College informed that
one third of the population is suffering from various allergic diseases. He
further elaborated that Bronchial Asthma and Allergic Rhinitis are common
allergic diseases. He also told that perception of food allergy is very high
(50%-60%) but actual food allergy is 4%-5%.
Professor Rajendra Prasad , Director Medical Education and
Head , Pulmonary Medicine, Era’s Lucknow Medical College & Hospital emphasised the role of detailed history
taking in recognising various risk factors leading to allergic diseases. Dr. V.K Jain, Head of
Department, Respiratory Medicine, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, Jaipur and
Past President of Indian College of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, spoke about
the role of skin tests for the diagnosis of various allergic diseases. He
stressed that skin test must be performed properly and must be correlated with
history. Dr. S.N Gaur, Officiating Director, Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute
and Secretary, National College of Chest Physicians spoke about the role of
immunotherapy in various allergic diseases and further stressed that
immunotherapy can be very useful in bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis, if
given in properly selected patients. Dr. P.C. Kathuria, Director, National
Allergy Centre, spoke in detail about food allergy. Dr. Ajay Kumar Rai,
Assistant Professor, Department of Dermatology, talked about approach to
chronic urticaria.
On this occasion, a workshop was organised about the
practical demonstration of various skin tests, immunotherapy, how to properly
administer immunotherapy and pollen calendar. Various inhalational devices for
adults and children, used in patients of bronchial asthma were also
demonstrated. This was attended by 100 Post Graduate students, practitioners
and faculty from all over UP.
